Georgia football is continuing its strong June on the recruiting trail, as 5-star edge Isaiah Gibson announced his commitment to the Bulldogs. The 6-foot-4, 245-pounder is Georgia’s second commit of the day and the latest in a class that already includes 15 players.
Gibson committed to USC in March but decommitted three months later. The nation’s No. 1 edge pledged to the Trojans the same day as Georgia target Justus Terry, who also decommitted from USC prior this week.
“I will say just me and Justus, we really committed at the same time,” Gibson told Sports Illustrated in May. “It was just the overall environment of USC, I saw that everybody [was] happy. At the moment, I [felt] like that was [the place] I wanted to be for sure.”
According to On3 Sports, the Bulldogs gained momentum in Gibson’s recruitment during the scavenger hunt in May. After the event, Gibson took an official visit to Georgia and decommitted from USC. The Georgia-native also canceled his official visit to Oklahoma and instead took a return trip to Athens.
His recent tweet sparked debate between college football analysts, fans and recruiting experts.
“Every time I go on a visit there is one particular school everyone has to say something about,” Gibson tweeted on June 20.
Gibson may never reveal what school he was referring to, but his commitment says more than potential words. Gibson did say he is particularly close with Georgia outside linebackers coach Chidera Uzo-Diribe, who played a pivotal role in his recruitment.
“We always have good conversations,” Gibson said. “I mean, we are like brothers. We talk about every other day.”
Gibson has potential to be a dominant force on Georgia’s defensive line. He is projected to need a couple years of development before securing a starting role. However, with a 7-foot wingspan, Gibson can impact a game.
In 2023, he led his team with 17 sacks and 55 pressures en route to an All-Region selection. Gibson hails from Warner Robins, Georgia, the same place as former Bulldog quarterback Jake Fromm.
